A Teacher, A Friend A Hero, A Local Model of Education and Founder of Parijat Academy.
The man who explained the importance of education to villagers and also brought the literacy rate up in his village as well as nearby villages.
Uttam was from a poor background family. After graduating from a city college, he returned to his village.
He started giving tuitions, and when he was short of funds, he used to sell woods to the nearby market.
There he saw children’s loitering and lack of joy on their faces; most of them were school dropouts.
So, after two years, he spends all the money that he earned from tuition, in constructing a room and named it as Parijat Academy (Parijat is the name of Flower).
Parijat Academy is a grassroots level non-profitable community school in the Pamohi region of Garchuk, Guwahati. It was the first school in that particular region to offer free accessible education of that time when Government schools were overpopulated and didn’t existed for most children in that region, so Uttam started this school with only four students, and now it annually supports up to 600+ students. The school has touched more than 10,000 people over the past decade. Now with the help of charitable organizations, Parijat Academy is a success. Still, there needs to be more like it to make literacy rate 100%, Uttam says.
